If a doctor were to perform surgery on you and remove a terminal tumor, you would say that he had 'saved' you.
If a fireman were to carry you out of a burning building before it collapsed, you would say that he had 'saved' you.
If a lifeguard were to see you drowning in the ocean and jump off her chair and pull you from the crippling undertow, you would say that she 'saved' you.
The Bible teaches that you have a terminal tumor called sin. You are caught in a deadly undertow that is dragging you out to sea. You are headed toward flames that never cease. But God, in His mercy, sent His Son to die for your sin so that you could be saved. Are you saved? How do you know? A lot of people say they are, but they're not. Do you have a biblical reason for saying that you are? You're not saved just because you say so. You're not saved because you know how to be saved.
